March 23 - Pres. Bush decided to discontinue a half-century tradition in which presidents have relied on the American Bar Association for advice on potential candidates for federal judgeships. The administration will no longer give names of people under consideration for U.S. courts to the ABA before forwarding them to the Senate for confirmation. May 10 - Trying to bring renewed vigor to the war on drugs, President Bush on Thursday named conservative John P. Walters as his drug policy director and pledged to pay ''unprecedented attention'' to helping addicted Americans get treatment. |
