May 1 - President Bush will name a bipartisan commission on Wednesday ( May 2nd) to recommend an overhaul of the Social Security retirement system that will include private investment accounts, the White House said. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said on Tuesday that Bush would ask the panel to devise a way to implement the individually controlled accounts he proposed in his campaign. Recommendations are expected in the fall. An administration source said former New York Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who has had a long-time interest in Social Security reform, and Richard Parsons, a senior executive of AOL Time Warner Inc., were expected to be named as co-chairmen of the commission. |
