4. Joseph3 Bragg (Joseph2, Joseph1) was born on 1 October 1719 at Richmond Co., Virginia.3 He married Susannah Dozier, daughter of Leonard Dozier II and Elizabeth Ingo, at Richmond Co., Virginia.
On 12 May 1740 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Court Records showed that "The claim of Joseph Bragg of this County for taking up a servant woman named Wilnor Gorman belonging to Stanley Gower of this county was this day sworn to in Court by the sd' Bragg and ordered to be certified."14
On 10 February 1746 at Stafford Co., Virginia, Joseph and Susannah witnessed a Will for Mary Burras.

On 20 February 1786 at Sullivan Co., Tennessee, Thomas Bragg received from James Hollis through his attorney, 420 acres on Horse Creek, recorded on 28 Aug 1806.
On 27 July 1790 at Sullivan Co., Tennessee, Thomas Bragg Sr. bought from Larkin Pearpoint 80 acres on Horse Creek, and was recorded on 7 oct 1790.31
On 25 September 1790 at Sullivan Co., Tennessee, Thomas Bragg bought from John Mullin Sr., 50 acres on Horse Creek and it was recorded on 20 Jul 1791.32
On 5 November 1793 at Sullivan Co., Tennessee, Thomas Bragg Sr., for the good will & love he bears for his said son, David, for 5 shillings sterling, gave him 100 acres in Sullivan Co., on Walkers Fork of Horse Creek including the plantation where Larkin Learpoint formerly lived. Witnessed by George and Thomas Vincent. Proven in open court by George Vincent, December session 1793. Recorded 20 Sep 1794.33
On 16 October 1801 at Sullivan Co., Tennessee, it looks as if Thomas Sr., divided his 200 acres of land between his four sons, Thomas Jr., William, Joseph and Benjamin and Thomas Jr. had been made executor of the Estate. This was registered on May 26, 1802.
The sons, Joseph, William and Benjamin transferred their share of land, 150 acres on Horse Creek each, to Thomas Jr. on 9 Mar 1816.34
Elizabeth McKay married Abraham Job on 8 July 1739 at Virginia. On 8 July 1739 Nottingham Meeting disowned Elizabeth McKay.

Pltf's atty Richard Parker came, deft not appearing, an attachment is granted them against said deft, returnable next court. Case was dismissed on 7 May 1759.35

Catherine must have been disowned by her father as in his Will he made sure she only got 1 Shilling and nowe more. This must have been because of her having child out of wedlock and possibly trouble between families. Her grandfather Thomas Settle did remember her and son Tarpley in his will and gave them everything.
On 16 October 1746 Thomas Settle made a deed of gift for the natural love and affection which I have and bear unto my granddaughter, Catherine Bragg, and to Tarpley Bragg, her son, and for the paternal care I have for their future maintenance and well being I give to them all the plantation whereon I now live together with 200 acres of land which was formerly sold by Andrew Boyer and wife Sarah to Robert Prid by deed 4 May 1681 and I do give to Catherine Bragg 100 acres of the said 200 during her life and after her death to descend to Tarpley Bragg and he will receive other 100 acres when he attains the age of 18 years.36,37

It is considered and decreed by the court that the complainant recover one seventh (1/7) part of clear estate of Joseph Bragg, dec'd. (£16.2.5 + costs).41

John Edison, Matthew Kelly, Henry Suttle & Wim William (sic) or any 3 appointed to appraise the slaves (if any) and personal estate of Elizabeth Bragg dec'd and return an inventory to next court.18
On 1 December 1778 at Fluvanna Co., Virginia, John bought 99 acres of land on Roundabout Creek adjoining lands of Elias Williams and Wilson Miles-Cary from John Pierce. (signature shows John Pace and wife Nancy).49
On 5 October 1797 at Fluvanna Co., Virginia, John purchased 67 acres from Elias Wills, Sr bounded by John Bragg's land on the west, James Cole and Absalom Appleberry on the west & southwest, William Johnson and Caleb Stone on the south east and east and by the land bought of Lisle by David Ross on the east and which will fully appear on a patent granted to said Elias Wills bearing the date 1 March 1773.50

On 7 August 1769 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Jesse Thornton, planter, and his wife Hannah of Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co. to Moore Bragg, planter, of same. £75.12.6 current money of Virginia for a tract of land in county aforesaid, of 103 ½ acres, part of a larger tract formerly in the possession of Wm Thornton dec'd, father of the said Jesse, and descended to Jesse as heir to his father. On 1 May 1780 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Moore Bragg & Sarah his wife of Parish of Lunenburg & county of Richmond sold to William Bragg, son of said Moore & Sarah, a tract of land purchased of Jesse Thornton, now deceased, containing 103 acres.57
On 1 March 1784 at Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co., Virginia, Moore Bragg, planter and Sarah his wife sold to Richard Asbury, for £100 current money of VA, a tract of land lying in the county of Richmond, containing 133 1/2 acres, beginning at a hickory tree on the line of Sir Jonathan Beckwith's land whereon John Jone's widow now lives ... thence along Thomas's line to Pantico Run near the said Bragg's Mill to a chestnut oak. Recorded 5 April 1784.58
On 1 September 1784 at Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co., Virginia, Moore Bragg gave for the love and affection which I have for my son William Bragg, grant him all that parcel of land in the county of Richmond whereon I now live containing 150 acres, "... except he the said Moore Bragg retains the possession of the said tract of land during his life without any consideration ever to be made for the rent thereof to the said William Bragg. Witnesses; Thomas Franklin, Daniel Connollee, William Jackson. Recorded 6 Sep 1784.59
On 4 September 1784 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Moore Bragg & Sarah his wife to Vincent Redman, for £200, do grant all the parcels of land "purchased by me of the late William Bragg & Jesse Thornton as will appear by their deeds bearing date in month of July & Aug 1770," lying part in the parish of Cople and County of Westmoreland and part in the parish of Lunenburg and County of Richmond, about 100 acres. Witnesses Thomas Franklin, Daniel Connollee, William Jackson and John Hall.60
Moore made a will on 20 August 1788 at Richmond Co., Virginia, which, mentions wife; sons, William, James, Matthew; dau's. Rebecca and Ann; grandson William Bragg; after wife's death, estate to be sold and the money equally divided between five children.61
On 15 July 1789 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Moore stated " for the natural love and affection which I bear to my son James Bragg"" plus 5 shillings, give one negro woman named Winney and her increase.62
Moore's estate was probated on 2 January 1792 at Richmond Co., Virginia.61
Sarah Kelley married William Bailey circa 1750. She died after 5 February 1798, as deed of land to son was recorded on this date.63 She left a will on 5 June 1772 at Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co., Virginia, mentions daughters, Sarah Bragg (w/o Moore Bragg); Elizabeth Bragg. Executors were son, John, son-in-law, Moor Bragg and Fauntleroy Dye.61
On 28 October 1797 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Sarah made a deed stating -- Sarah Bragg, widow of Moore Bragg, dec'd "out of the great love and regard I have and bear unto my beloved son Matthew Bragg ..." plus $1; all that tract lying in Mulberry Island Neck and Richmond Co, 15 acres of which I hold in fee under the will of my son, John Bailey, as will appear by his will dated 4 April 1780, together with all my right and interest that may accrue to me as a survivor of my son, James Bragg, dec'd, as well as my interest in said tract of land held by my first husband, William Bailey, dec'd., or his and my son, John Bailey, dec'd.64

- ii. William Bruce. On 4 February 1765 at Richmond Co., Virginia, William Bruce, orphan of Thomas Bruce, dec'd, chose Elizabeth Bruce as his guardian. Moore Bragg, as her security, and Elizabeth entered into and acknowledged her guardianship of said William according to Law.44

Robert Mitchell, Moore Brockenbrough and Vincent Redman Gent or any two of them are appointed to allot to Elizabeth Bragg widow of William Bragg dec'd her dower in the estate of said William Bragg and to divide the estate according to law and make report to the Court.

She died after 5 February 1798, as deed of land to son was recorded on this date.63 She left a will on 5 June 1772 at Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co., Virginia, mentions daughters, Sarah Bragg (w/o Moore Bragg); Elizabeth Bragg. Executors were son, John, son-in-law, Moor Bragg and Fauntleroy Dye.61
On 28 October 1797 at Richmond Co., Virginia, Sarah made a deed stating -- Sarah Bragg, widow of Moore Bragg, dec'd "out of the great love and regard I have and bear unto my beloved son Matthew Bragg ..." plus $1; all that tract lying in Mulberry Island Neck and Richmond Co, 15 acres of which I hold in fee under the will of my son, John Bailey, as will appear by his will dated 4 April 1780, together with all my right and interest that may accrue to me as a survivor of my son, James Bragg, dec'd, as well as my interest in said tract of land held by my first husband, William Bailey, dec'd., or his and my son, John Bailey, dec'd.64

- ii. James Bragg was born circa 1758.65 He married Ann Jones on 10 January 1788 at Richmond Co., Virginia.19 He died in 1794 at Richmond Co., Virginia.
- 31. iii. Matthew Bragg , born circa 1762; married Anna Chunning.
- iv. Rebecca Bragg was born circa 1756.65 She married Daniel Marmaduke on 17 December 1791.
- v. Ann Bragg was born circa 1760.65
On 11 July 1770 at Westmoreland Co., Virginia, William and Elizabeth, his wife, of Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co. to Moore Bragg planter of same. £75 for a tract of land of about 50 acres beginning at a small gum .. to the beginning which said land being part of a larger tract devised by Charles Bragg dec'd, Father of the said William Bragg party to these presents. Signed William Bragg, Elizabeth Bragg.67

- iv. Joseph Bragg was born circa 1768 at Culpeper Co., Virginia.66 He married Ann Wilson on 6 April 1808 at Amelia Co., Virginia.69
